Viva Enjoy
VIVA Cruises
VIVA ENJOY was my first-ever river cruise, and I boarded with one big question: would river cruising simply be too slow for me?
I normally spend my time on ocean-going cruise ships where the ship itself can be a major part of the destination. VIVA ENJOY turned that idea around.
Here, the ship is not the main attraction. The scenery, the cities and the feeling of continuously travelling through the landscape are.
What surprised me most was how much I enjoyed that difference.
The pace was slower, but the days still had a natural flow. I could wake up in a new city, walk ashore, return for lunch, watch the river pass by and later arrive somewhere completely different.
VIVA ENJOY did not replace ocean cruising for me, but it changed my view of river cruising.
Our rating: 7/10.

Short summary
Is River Cruising Too Slow? VIVA ENJOY Changed My Mind
Before this journey, I genuinely did not know whether river cruising would fit me.
I am used to large cruise ships with multiple restaurants, bars, entertainment venues, pools and entire neighbourhoods to explore.
VIVA ENJOY is almost the opposite.
It is small, easy to understand and deliberately uncomplicated.
And that turned out to be one of its biggest strengths.
The Scenery Was the Real Experience
The biggest positive surprise was the scenery.
On an ocean cruise, there can be long periods where all you see is open sea.
On VIVA ENJOY, something is constantly passing outside.
Buildings.
Villages.
Churches.
Bridges.
Forests.
Cities.
Other river ships.
Locks.
The landscape feels incredibly close.
That proximity completely changes the experience.
If you enjoy architecture, nature and simply watching the world pass by, there is always something to look at.
For me, the locks were among the most memorable parts of the journey.
Passing Walhalla was another standout moment.
These were not side attractions.
They were part of the cruise itself.
The Ship Is Not the Destination
This is one of the most important things to understand before booking.
VIVA ENJOY is not a destination ship.
You are not going to spend a week discovering new areas onboard.
The ship gives you the comfort you need while moving between destinations.
That is its role.
You have a comfortable cabin.
Restaurants.
A bar.
A lounge.
A sundeck.
Then you step outside and explore.
For me, that became one of the great advantages of river cruising.
It felt almost like travelling through several European cities while having the same hotel room follow me everywhere.
No packing.
No checking into another hotel.
No moving luggage.
You simply return to the ship.
Slower Does Not Necessarily Mean Boring
The pace is slower than on the types of cruises I normally take.
But I was wrong to assume that meant I would necessarily become bored.
The days still had a good flow.
Wake up.
Breakfast.
Explore a city.
Return to the ship.
Have lunch.
Watch the scenery.
Arrive somewhere new.
Go ashore again.
Have dinner.
It worked surprisingly well.
However, this depends heavily on your interest in the destinations.
If you want to remain onboard most of the time, VIVA ENJOY may feel too quiet.
This cruise makes much more sense when you actually want to explore the places along the river.
Getting Ashore Is One of River Cruising's Greatest Strengths
I really appreciated how easy it was to leave the ship.
You often simply walk ashore and start exploring.
That lack of friction makes a huge difference.
Then, when you are finished, you walk back to the ship and everything is familiar again.
It is incredibly uncomplicated.
Itinerary Changes and Short Stops
Regensburg was cancelled during the journey.
For me, that was not a major issue.
Changes happen and the overall journey still worked.
The short stay in Bratislava bothered me more.
It felt unnecessarily rushed.
There was technically enough time to go ashore, but not enough to properly settle into the destination.
That clashes slightly with what I liked about the rest of the river cruise experience.
The best parts felt calm and easy.
A very short port call creates the opposite feeling.
Service Becomes Very Personal
The small scale creates a completely different service environment from a large ocean ship.
You start recognising the crew very quickly.
And they start recognising you.
That creates a natural intimacy.
At its best, the service was excellent: warm, personal and attentive.
There was, however, some inconsistency.
Some crew members were extremely polished and naturally service-minded.
Others were less so.
On a small ship, that variation becomes more noticeable because you repeatedly interact with the same people.
VIVA ENJOY as a Solo Cruise
I travelled alone and it worked very well.
The ship is easy to understand.
The atmosphere is calm.
I could explore independently, work when I wanted and spend time simply watching the scenery.
For someone who enjoys their own company, it is an easy type of solo travel.
However, I would not necessarily choose VIVA ENJOY specifically as a social solo cruise.
If your main goal is to meet lots of other solo travellers and constantly socialise, there are probably better options.
For independent solo travel, though, it worked very well.
Working Onboard
The Wi-Fi surprised me positively.
I was able to browse, stream and work without significant problems during the journey.
For anyone wanting to combine travel with some work, that is genuinely useful.

Dining
Dining on VIVA ENJOY
The overall dining experience was good.
Food generally arrived quickly.
It was served hot.
And quality was reasonably consistent.
But this is not sophisticated fine dining.
The dishes were generally simpler and the compositions less advanced than what we are used to on premium ocean products.
There were also a few noticeably weaker dishes.
That is why I would describe the food as good rather than outstanding.
It would not be fair to compare VIVA ENJOY directly with Explora Journeys or MSC Yacht Club.
They are different products with different priorities.
Moments
Moments was my favourite restaurant onboard.
It has an Italian-inspired concept, although I would not describe the experience as deeply Italian.
There were pizzas, pasta and other Italian-influenced dishes.
One of the more interesting elements was pasta finished in a Parmesan wheel.
The food was good and service worked well.
What I liked most was the atmosphere.
Moments felt smaller and more intimate.
That was also why I preferred it for breakfast.
It felt more gemütlich.
The compromise is the view.
Moments is located lower in the ship and does not provide the same panoramic river scenery as Riverside.
VIVA Bistro
VIVA Bistro was straightforward and uncomplicated.
The food was simpler.
Service was fast.
And that suited the restaurant.
It was not trying to become a major culinary event.
It was somewhere to have a good, easy meal.
The four-course dinner I had there moved very quickly, which actually fitted the relaxed nature of the journey rather well.
Riverside
Riverside is the larger main restaurant.
Its greatest strength is the view.
The large panoramic windows allow you to continue experiencing the river while eating.
The food itself was perfectly fine.
But I personally preferred Moments overall.
Riverside tried to provide more of a traditional à la carte experience, whereas Moments felt slightly more intimate and distinctive.
Breakfast
I preferred breakfast in Moments.
Riverside has the stronger view, but Moments felt smaller, calmer and more comfortable in the morning.
Ice Cream Buffet & Afternoon Tea
VIVA ENJOY also adds a couple of special food events during the cruise.
Afternoon Tea / High Tea is offered once per cruise and is part of VIVA’s all-inclusive concept. VIVA describes it as a selection of sweet and savoury treats such as scones, sandwiches, cupcakes, chocolates and macarons, served together with a range of teas.
On our sailing, there was also an ice cream buffet once during the cruise. It was a small event rather than a daily feature, but it added a bit of variety to the afternoon food offering.
These events fit the relaxed style of VIVA ENJOY well. They are not major dining experiences, but they create a few additional moments outside the normal breakfast, lunch and dinner routine.
Drinks
The included drink selection was good.
Champagne was included and was perfectly acceptable.
Cocktails worked well.
Beer and wine were also on a good level.
It was not an extravagant drinks programme, but it did not need to be.
For the product, I thought it worked.
The Bar
There is essentially one main bar onboard.
That sounds restrictive compared with a large ocean ship.
In reality, it worked perfectly well.
The small ship means everybody naturally passes through the same areas.
That makes the bar feel more social.
Crew quickly recognise guests, and it becomes one of the natural meeting points onboard.

The Biggest Dining Weakness
Late-night food availability needs improvement.
For me, this is the biggest weakness in the entire dining concept.
No room service.
No evening snack station.
No simple food when returning late.
For something marketed as all-inclusive, I think this is an important gap.

Restaurant Reservations on VIVA ENJOY
VIVA ENJOY has three main dining venues, and the reservation rules are slightly different depending on where and when you want to eat.
Riverside is the main open-seating restaurant. No reservation is needed for breakfast, lunch or dinner, so you can simply arrive during opening hours and take an available table.
Moments is open without reservation for breakfast and lunch. Dinner, however, requires a reservation. We recommend booking at least the day before, especially if there is a particular evening you want to dine there.
VIVA Bistro is also open without reservation at lunchtime. For dinner, a reservation is required, and again it is best to book at least one day in advance.
The system is straightforward once you know it: Riverside gives you complete flexibility, while Moments and VIVA Bistro give you two alternative dinner experiences that require a little advance planning.

Cabins & Suites
Our French Balcony Cabin
I stayed in cabin 2227, a French Balcony cabin.
It worked extremely well.
I have very little to criticise.
The bed was comfortable.
Storage was good.
The French balcony suited this style of journey perfectly.
Being able to open the room toward the river and have the landscape directly outside is a major part of the experience.
The minibar was included and restocked.
The selection was fairly simple, with beer and soft drinks, but it did what it needed to do.
Bathroom
The bathroom impressed me.
It felt well finished and the shower worked extremely well.
Water pressure was excellent.
For a relatively small river cruise cabin, I never felt the bathroom was a compromise.
Would I Book the Same Cabin Again?
Yes.
Without hesitation.
The French Balcony cabin gave me everything I needed.
Would I Upgrade to the Larger Suite?
Probably not.
I also looked at the larger suite onboard.
It offers more space and a larger seating area.
It is undoubtedly a nicer cabin.
But for me, the additional space would not justify paying a significant premium.
VIVA ENJOY is not a cruise where I would expect to spend huge amounts of time in the cabin.
The standard French Balcony category already worked extremely well.
Entertainment
Entertainment on VIVA ENJOY
Entertainment exists, but it is not a major part of the product.
There were smaller performances and activities in the lounge.
The quality was perfectly acceptable, but nothing I would consider a major highlight.
And I think that is okay.
VIVA ENJOY does not need to compete with large ocean ships on entertainment.
The river, cities and scenery provide much of the stimulation.
The onboard entertainment felt appropriately scaled to the ship.
Sundeck and Onboard Time
Although I would not call it entertainment in the traditional sense, the sundeck became one of the most important spaces onboard.
When it was open, it was one of the best places to experience the river.
There are tables, chairs and loungers where you can simply sit and watch the landscape.
At times, parts of the sundeck have to be lowered because of bridges.
That is simply part of river cruising.
In some places the bridges were incredibly close to the ship.
Those moments actually became part of the experience rather than an inconvenience.
There is also a hot tub.
It is a nice additional feature, although I personally did not use it.
The gym was extremely small.
For one person doing a normal light workout, it worked.
Two people would already make it feel tight and three would probably be close to the practical limit.
Fortunately, I normally had it to myself.
Is VIVA ENJOY good for a first river cruise?
For me, yes.
It was my first river cruise and the simplicity made it very easy to understand the experience.
Is river cruising boring?
I expected it might be.
It was not.
It is slower than ocean cruising, but if you enjoy exploring cities and watching scenery, there is a natural flow to the days.
What was the best thing about VIVA ENJOY?
The scenery.
That was what made the experience genuinely different from ocean cruising.
What was the biggest weakness?
Food availability outside normal restaurant hours.
There was no room service and no proper late-night snack option.
Is VIVA ENJOY really all-inclusive?
Most everyday food and drinks are included.
However, I personally think the lack of late-night food weakens the all-inclusive concept.
How good is the food on VIVA ENJOY?
Generally good.
It is not especially complex or sophisticated, and there were some weaker dishes, but overall I was satisfied.
What is the best restaurant on VIVA ENJOY?
Moments was my favourite.
I liked the smaller atmosphere and particularly enjoyed it for breakfast.
Which restaurant has the best view?
Riverside.
The panoramic windows make the scenery part of the dining experience.
Is VIVA Bistro good?
Yes.
It is simple, fast and uncomplicated.
Are drinks included?
Yes, a good selection was included during my cruise, including cocktails, beer, wine and champagne.
Is there late-night food?
This was one of my main criticisms.
There was no proper late-night snack service and no room service during my sailing.
Is VIVA ENJOY good for solo travellers?
Yes, especially for independent travellers who enjoy a calm pace and are comfortable spending time alone.
I would not necessarily choose it specifically for a highly social solo cruise.
Is VIVA ENJOY good for younger travellers?
It can be, but you need to enjoy the destinations and slower style of travel.
The overall age profile felt higher than on the ocean cruises I normally take.
Is there much entertainment onboard?
No.
There is some smaller entertainment, but it is not one of the main reasons to book VIVA ENJOY.
Is the Wi-Fi good?
During my cruise, yes.
I was able to work, browse and stream without significant problems.
Is the gym good?
It is extremely small but functional for a light workout.
How was cabin 2227?
Very good.
It had a French balcony, comfortable bed, good storage, an included minibar and an impressive bathroom with excellent water pressure.
Would you book the French Balcony cabin again?
Yes.
Is the larger suite worth the extra money?
For me personally, probably not.
The standard French Balcony cabin already provided everything I needed.
Does VIVA ENJOY feel crowded?
No.
The overall experience felt calm and intimate.
Is it easy to explore the cities?
Yes.
That is one of river cruising's biggest advantages.
Getting ashore is often extremely simple.
Did itinerary changes cause problems?
Regensburg was cancelled during my sailing, but it did not significantly affect my enjoyment of the trip.
The short stop in Bratislava bothered me more because it felt rushed.
Who should book VIVA ENJOY?
Travellers who enjoy scenery, European cities, a calm pace and uncomplicated travel.
Who should not book VIVA ENJOY?
Travellers who want a huge activity programme, large-scale entertainment, nightlife or a ship that is itself the primary destination.
Would I cruise with VIVA Cruises again?
Yes.
The experience was good enough that Emmelie and I are already taking the next step.
In November 2026, we will sail aboard VIVA BEYOND and experience the VIVA Boutique concept.
Why are you trying VIVA BEYOND?
I enjoyed the simplicity of this first river cruise and now want to see what happens when VIVA applies a more boutique-focused concept to it.
I am particularly interested in whether the food quality and consistency of service will improve.
Because VIVA BEYOND is a smaller product, it may potentially suit the type of premium cruising we normally enjoy even better.
We will find out onboard.
How would you describe VIVA ENJOY in one sentence?
A comfortable and uncomplicated ship that carries you from city to city while keeping the landscape constantly within reach.
What We Liked
What We Liked About VIVA ENJOY
The biggest strength was the scenery.
That was the element that made river cruising feel genuinely different from ocean cruising.
You are so close to the landscape that the journey itself becomes part of the destination.
I also really liked the simplicity.
VIVA ENJOY does not require much effort to understand.
You quickly learn where everything is.
There is no endless list of venues or reservations to manage.
You go ashore, come back, eat, have a drink and continue watching the river.
There is something refreshing about that simplicity.
The small size also creates a more personal atmosphere.
Crew members recognise you quickly and you begin recognising almost everyone working onboard.
I also appreciated the all-inclusive nature of the product.
Drinks were easy.
Meals were easy.
The minibar was included.
There was very little everyday friction.
The cabin also exceeded my expectations.
I had no meaningful complaint about it.
And finally, I liked how uncomplicated it was to visit the cities.
River cruising makes destination-hopping remarkably easy.
What Could Be Better
What Could Be Better on VIVA ENJOY
The biggest weakness was food availability outside normal restaurant hours.
There was no room service.
There was no proper late-night snack option.
And there was nowhere to simply grab something basic when returning hungry later in the evening.
That bothered me significantly.
If a product is marketed as all-inclusive, I think basic food should be available beyond the main dining periods.
It does not need to be elaborate.
A toast.
A sandwich.
A sausage.
Soup.
Something simple would make a major difference.
This also matters because VIVA ENJOY is destination-focused.
If you want to stay ashore in the evening, you should not have to choose between experiencing the destination and getting something to eat onboard.
The food quality itself was also somewhat inconsistent.
Overall it was good to very good.
Meals generally arrived hot and quickly.
But there were also occasional dishes where the quality dropped noticeably.
The cuisine was not particularly advanced and some dishes felt fairly simple.
Service had a similar inconsistency.
The best crew members were excellent.
Others were less polished.
Bratislava's short stop was another frustration.
It felt unnecessarily rushed compared with the otherwise relaxed nature of the journey.
Entertainment is also limited.
That is not necessarily a flaw because the destinations are supposed to be the main attraction, but travellers expecting strong evening entertainment should adjust their expectations.
Who Is This Cruise For?
Who Is VIVA ENJOY For?
VIVA ENJOY makes the most sense for people who want the destinations and scenery to be the focus of the journey.
If you enjoy watching landscapes, exploring European towns and cities and travelling at a calmer pace, the concept works very well.
It also suits travellers who appreciate simplicity.
There is something very easy about knowing that your cabin, food and drinks are travelling with you throughout the journey.
You do not need to constantly plan the onboard experience.
VIVA ENJOY can also work very well for solo travellers who are comfortable travelling independently.
The atmosphere is calm and easy.
The demographic felt older than on many ocean cruises, which also contributes to the more relaxed pace.
Who Is It Not For?
If you need constant activities, large-scale entertainment or nightlife, this is probably not the right cruise.
Likewise, if the ship itself is normally the main reason you cruise, VIVA ENJOY may feel limited.
You need to be interested in going ashore.
You need to enjoy scenery.
You need to be comfortable with a slower rhythm.
For travellers who normally choose products such as Explora Journeys or MSC Yacht Club, VIVA ENJOY can still make sense — but for completely different reasons.
Do not expect the same dining complexity, suite experience or ship facilities.
Instead, think of it as simple comfort combined with extremely easy access to the destinations.
